Abstract:

This layer shows areas of turfgrass, agricultural lands, and open space within both the RPA 100-ft buffer and FEMA Flood Zones A or V.The State of Virginia limits development and excessive clearing of vegetation in this buffer area. If local governments prohibit development in the buffer, the acreage of these areas may be eligible to receive open space preservation (Activity 420) credits through the CRS Program, helping reduce flood insurance premiums for high risk policy holders.

Purpose:

This layer depicts pervious land cover within both the FEMA Special Hazard Flood Area and the Chesapeake Bay Resource Protection Area (RPA) 100-ft buffer for coastal Virginia localities.
