The parcel feature class is a polygon GIS Feature Class in an Enterprise GIS used to delineate tax parcel boundaries in Rockingham County VA. The purpose of the dataset is to provide a spatial representation of tax parcel boundaries for Rockingham County along with the associated attribute information English The parcels were initially derived from paper tax maps as part of a project by the Central Shenandoah Planning Distric Commission from 1995-1996. The initial digital file was a Microstation File. In 2000-2001 Anderson & Associates conflated the Microstation Files into Shapefiles using aerial photographs from 1999. In 2004, the shapefiles were moved into a personal geodatabase by county employees, and in 2006 were added to the enterprise geodatabase now in use by the county. Since the initial creation, parcels have been corrected using surveys from land surveyors using metes and bounds. Any determination of topography or contours, or depiction of physical improvements, utilizing photogrammetric methods or similar remote sensing technology by persons not licensed as a land surveyor pursuant to 54.1-406 shall not show any property monumentation or property metes and bounds, nor provide any measurement showing the relationship of any physical improvements to any property line or boundary.
