The model assessment uses remote sensing and GIS technology to characterize land use patterns and features around wetlands such as surrounding land cover and density of roads as well as individual wetland characteristics such as wetland size and type to determine the wetlands overall condition as related to habitat and water quality functions. The water quality analysis determines the percentages of different land covers and features within the contributing drainage area of the wetland.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;</idAbs>

<stepDesc>Wetland drainages are generated using elevation data from the United States Geological Survey. The wetlands and the elevation datasets are processed ArcGIS Pro; the elevation dataset is in a raster format and the wetlands are in ESRI shapefile format. The hydrologic tools available in ArcGIS Pro are used to create the watersheds. First, the isolated sinks in the elevation data are filled. These sinks are localized depressions in the elevation data, which are assumed to be anomalies. The new elevation data is used to generate a flow direction raster; the flow direction raster assigns numeric values to individual cells in the raster based on the flow direction in that cell. Finally, each wetland must be converted into a raster, and a watershed raster is generated around it from the flow direction raster. The resulting watershed is than converted to a polygon. The script calculates the land cover within a 200m buffer around the wetlands, and within the drainages in the 200m buffer. Road density is calculated using TigerLine roads data. A scoring methodology developed by Kirk Havens and Carl Hershner in 2011, scores the wetlands for habitat and water quality, stress level and restoration potential.
