Description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;font-size:12pt"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>A geospatial analysis to determine where conditions are favorable for living shoreline creation was performed for public lands in coastal Virginia. The analysis imported data from the CCRM Shoreline Management Model (SMM version 5) which identifies where conditions are suitable for living shorelines as an erosion control treatment based on site conditions. Site conditions are determined from various external digital databases that include the CCRM Virginia Shoreline Inventory, as well as others. Only living shoreline treatment options that occur along the shoreline were considered in the analysis. These options could include: maintain conditions/no action necessary, fiber logs, oysters, marsh planting, marsh planting with sills, beach nourishment, and breakwaters. Options for maintaining and enhancing the riparian upland are assumed. The model output was superimposed with a delineation of public lands in the coastal zone of Virginia that occur along tidal shoreline. These data are maintained and provided by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation in shape file format. The dataset includes conservation easements, and public land holdings at the federal, state, and local jurisdictions.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>

Description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>Shoreline Situation Reports (SSR) were first generated by VIMS in the 1970's to report the condition and status of the shore lands. The SSR series were published in hardcopy on a county by county basis for each Tidewater Virginia localities. The reports were intended to assist planners, managers, and regulators in decisions pertaining to management of coastal areas and natural resources therein. This Shoreline Inventory report continues a process which updates and expands the earlier reports. Data collected reports conditions surveyed in the immediate riparian zone, the bank, and along the shoreline. This dataset is the result of combining the most recent digital shoreline inventories for Virginia.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>Shoreline is digitized using the most current imagery collected at the time of the locality shoreline inventory. Prior to 2015, shoreline was digitized along the water interface. Beginning in 2015, shoreline is delineated along the edge of the upland where it iterfaces with other habitats such as marsh or open water.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
